one year later.

Sophie turned one this week.

it passed by quietly.

little celebrations happened throughout the day.

like drinking from her mug that got me through her nine month of growing inside me.

and lots of remembering the events of the day starting with the induction..

Daddy came home a little early from work to celebrate with us.

our little family sat down in an empty cupcakery.

four chairs. four people. perfect.

we drank soda from old fashioned glass bottles while sinartra crooned on the stereo.

and took in the 1950s feel.

we each got a mini cupcake to match out tastes.
mama got lemon.
daddy got cookie dough.
Ella got banana chocolate.

and the littlest got a tuxedo.

we sang.

and daddy tried to blow out the candle but Ella beat him to it.

It was (as I think often it is) an emotional day for this mama.

So much has changed in the past year.

and thinking through all that happened a year ago still feels so real.
I can still feel the pain of contractions, the relief of the epidural, the fear of pushing, the complete and utter joy of 6:26 when we met our little phie.

So much has changed in her, and yet we have no real concept of how much she will continue to change in the coming years.

Our future, at this point, is so uncertain.
where we'll be, how we'll get there.

but our little family will follow wherever we end up.

celebrate we did.

Celebrate we will.

happy birthday, Sophia Jane.
